Ilyinsky potatoes

With a wide variety of potato varieties, they often choose those that are sold in the nearest spontaneous market or even from cars in bags or buckets. The quality of such planting material can be completely unpredictable. Usually, after several attempts to grow a more or less decent harvest, novice gardeners turn to more experienced people for advice. And, of course, they are advised to begin with trying to get the tubers of several old proven varieties of different ripening periods and, as experience is gained, choose the most suitable potatoes for growing.

Ilyinsky's potatoes may well serve as one of these varieties, from the cultivation of which you can begin to get acquainted with potatoes for a novice gardener. It has rather average characteristics, but many people still like its taste. Therefore, it is happily grown in many regions of Russia.

Description of the variety

The description of the Ilyinsky potato variety traditionally begins with its history of origin. This potato was bred in Russia at the end of the last century by a group of breeders of the Moscow region with the help of several farms, in which additional tests of the variety were carried out. The originator is the A.G. Lorkha. The variety was registered in the State Register of Russia in 1999 with recommendations for use in the Middle Volga and Central Black Earth regions of Russia.

Ilyinsky potato bushes of medium height, are distinguished by good foliage. The stems tend to disintegrate from the center, as in most potato varieties, so the hilling procedure is necessary and allows you to increase the yield due to the formation of additional tubers in the hilling zone. Leaves are medium in size, almost no waviness along the edge. Inflorescences are very small, with a purple-red corolla.

Variety characteristics

The Ilyinsky Potato variety is characterized by early maturity. This means that it has a relatively short growing season, and potatoes can be harvested as early as 70-90 days after planting.

The yield of the variety is quite average, ranging from 200 to 300 centners per hectare. The maximum yield in favorable conditions can reach 360 centners per hectare. In terms of ordinary garden webs, we can say that from one square meter of planting you can get up to 5 kg of potatoes.

The preservation of the Ilyinsky variety is quite good, especially for mid-early varieties, which are usually intended for current summer consumption and are not stored for an especially long time. Nevertheless, such a characteristic as market keeping quality is 93% for him.

The variety has good resistance to potato cancer, scab and some viral diseases. But it is quite susceptible to potato nematode and late blight in the aerial part of the bush. At the same time, tubers are much more resistant to late blight.

Ilyinsky potatoes tolerate hot weather conditions quite well, they are relatively drought-resistant.

Tuber characteristics

Ilyinsky potato tubers have the following characteristics:

  • The shape is rather rounded, but sometimes rounded-oblong, uneven.
  • The mass of tubers is small, on average from 60 to 150 grams.
  • The skin color is reddish-pink, quite distinctive.
  • The pulp is white.
  • The eyes are red, small in size, of medium depth.
  • The starch content is average, from 15, 8 to 18%. It is enough that it is slightly boiled, but generally retains its shape after heat treatment.
  • Ilyinsky's potatoes taste excellent. This variety is used to make crispy potatoes.

Attention! The flesh of this potato variety does not darken when cut raw or after boiling.

The high marketability of potatoes is its most outstanding feature in comparison with other varieties. It varies from 88 to 99%. This indicator means the number of tubers suitable for sale or for food in relation to the total excavated crop.

Alexandra, 44 years old, Noginsk
And we have the earliest potato on the table - Ilyinskaya. We start eating it in mid-July. Young potatoes with sour cream, and even from their own garden, is a real pleasure. They say that in order to speed up the ripening of late potatoes, it should be planted interspersed with early varieties. This is exactly what I do.
Sergey, 28 years old, Saransk
And my parents also advised me to plant this particular potato - Ilyinskaya. We liked the taste very much, it is universal in use. His wife cooks it, bakes it, and prepares a lot of different things from it - everything is very tasty. And it is stored wonderfully. It may well lie in the cellar until spring. And at the same time it ripens quite early - in July we begin to slowly dig in and eat it.

Conclusion

Ilyinsky potatoes are valued by many gardeners for the high marketability of tubers and excellent taste.
